Sharon Leone Klein Ekstrand, 85, of Crozet, VA passed away on September 27, 2026, in Charlottesville, VA.
Sharon was born in North Dakota on June 16, 1941, to the late Lawrence and Anna Klein in Bismarck, ND. She grew up in Center, ND and graduated from high school there as Valedictorian of her class. She received a BA degree from Mount Marty College, SD in 1964. She then moved to Maryland, and began teaching English at Laurel High School. She later received a Master degree, and changed to a Guidance Counselor position at LHS.
In June of 1974 she married Peter Ekstrand. They lived in Maryland for about twenty years; retired to Virginia in 2000, and lived in Crozet, VA for over twenty years. Sharon was active there in Choral music, volunteer work, and involved in the local Catholic churches. Her passion for her faith & volunteering brought immense beauty to her life and to those around her.
She was diagnosed with MCI, followed by dementia and spent the last two years of her Life at Rosewood Village memory care facility, near Charlottesville, VA.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Peter Ekstrand, and one of her sisters, Rita Klein Dinger of Lincoln, NE, and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Anna Klein, her sisters Joanne Clark and Ruth Borchardt.
Visitation will be held at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903 on Wednesday, October 7, 6:30 to 8PM.
The funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 1214 Crozet Ave., Crozet, VA 22932 at 12:15PM on Thursday, October 8. Burial services will be at Bestgate Memorial Park, 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401 at 11:30AM on Friday, October 9.
