

Sharon Boone Hamner, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at the age of 86, at home in Chapel Hill. She was born on July 31, 1939, in Sandersville, Georgia, to Joseph and Edna Reed Boone.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Charles Edward Hamner, Jr.; her parents; an infant sister, Angela; and her brother, William S. Boone.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph A. Boone (Lee Boone) of Irwinton, Georgia; her daughter, Diana Inman (Randy Inman) of Chapel Hill, NC; her son, Clifton Hamner (Giovana Mantovani) of Roxboro, NC; and her grandchildren: Anne Marie Hamner (Jack McAndrews) of Pinehurst, NC, Kellie Hamner (Patrick Irving) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Reed Inman of San Francisco. She also leaves behind her great-granddaughter, Riley McAndrews of Pinehurst, and several special nieces and nephews.
Sharon was baptized in a pond in Wilkinson County, Georgia, into the Baptist Church. She graduated from Wilkinson County High School in Georgia, where she excelled in basketball and tennis. She was honored as “Girl of the Year” in both 1956 and 1957. She attended Mercer University for her freshman year and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and a Master’s degree in Education. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society. She briefly taught Home Economics at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA
In 1988, Sharon earned a second Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Virginia. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina and had a private counseling practice.
Sharon was a professional genealogist and member of the Shadwell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Charlottesville. She was also involved in the Chapel Hill Garden Club and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.

The family would like to thank the team from UNC Hospice and the Homewatch caregivers who cared for Sharon over the last two months.
A memorial service will be held at the Rock Chapel at Church of Our Savior, 1165 Rio Road East, Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA.
