

He was born on March 14, 1961 in Florida, the son of Ernest and Armistice “Dink” Shelton.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 35 years and four children: Mary Capra, Abbey Lane, Robert Shelton, and John Shelton. He is also survived by his sister, Lucy Bond, nephew, Jef Bond, cousin, Sandra Shelton, and grandchildren Nora, Samuel and Timothy Capra.
Brian grew up in Manchester, TN. He started college at Tennessee Tech and then came to Charlottesville in 1981 to help start a college ministry. He graduated with a BA in English from JMU.
Brian and Sharon were married in 1991. During this time, he worked as a substance abuse counselor for Mountain Wood Treatment Center and then later he worked with teens and families at Region Ten. Brian had a big heart for hurting people. He became a licensed minister through Grace Covenant Church and did part-time counseling. At times, Brian did ministry under the umbrella of First Stone Ministries with John Keebler and Chris Martin and with the Bridge Ministry. Brian also worked as a salesman for Bruce’s Floor Shop for many years, and then most recently for Carpet Plus.
Brian was a funny and caring person. He loved fishing, kayaking and being in nature. He knew lots of facts on a variety of topics and enjoyed conversing with people. He liked smoking a pipe on occasion, telling a good joke and being with family and friends. He attended Christ Community Church.
A celebration of life will happen on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Christ Community Church: 329 Riverside Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
