Born on January 21, 1926 in Galax, Virginia, Ginny was the daughter of the late Claude Lee and Ella Felts Morris of Charlottesville. She was predeceased by her siblings: James Morris of Fayetteville, NC, Ray Morris of Florida and Charlottesville, Joe Morris of Richmond, and Peggy Hyde of Charlottesville; and her husband, Roy Cleveland Haney. Ginny is survived by her beloved daughter Lauren Paige Haney Hall and son-in law, Steven Hall of Midlothian, Virginia; her sister, Betty Leake, of Spokane, Washington; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was educated at Red Hill High School and the Jefferson School of Commerce. On June 23, 1950, she was married to the late Roy Haney by the late Rev. Dudley Boogher in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Hickory Hill, Va. She loved this little church and served as its secretary and treasurer for over 50 years with an unwavering faith in God.
Ginny was a dedicated and valued employee of the Judge Advocate General’s School for several years, leaving in 1959 to follow her true calling as a full-time wife and mother. Always caring for others, she became known for her “safety gifts”, like windshield de-icer, and for saving every card and letter she has received in the last 92 years.
Although she travelled the world, Ginny thought the best spot on earth was her home on Montebello Circle which she gladly opened to a steady stream of stray cats, foreign exchange students, and her daughter’s friends; to whom her chicken casserole and chocolate chip pancakes were legendary. Ginny loved to dress in crazy costumes, often making surprise appearances at the Haney Farm parties in Palmyra.
Ginny was very athletic and loved sports. She spent many happy hours bowling with her girlfriends on the Farmington Country Club Lady bowlers, working out, and playing golf with the FCC Women’s Golf Team where her putting prowess won her many contests. She loved the Wahoos and was a season ticket holder to both basketball and football for many years.
Even in illness when her voice was gone, her spirit spoke volumes. She always had a smile and loved a good joke. During the last years of her life, Ginny received incredibly loving care from her Angels: Lisa Hand, Tammy Belcher, Roxieanne Sinkler, Jordan Protheroe and Sarah Walker who tended to her every need.
The Best Mother in The Universe has gone on to better things. Rest in peace. Your work is done.
