A carpenter by trade, Wayne built every home his family ever lived in. He was a much-sought-after builder, known for the pride he took in his work. He built every home with the same care and precision he would have given his own, a reflection of his craftsmanship and dedication. Wayne also enjoyed giving back to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Earlysville Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a lifetime member.
Wayne also found enjoyment in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting with his son and grandchildren and watching the wildlife from his back porch.
Wayne was generous with his time and talents, always willing to help his neighbors in whatever way he could. Whether he was building, making home repairs, bush hogging, or mowing, he simply enjoyed serving others. That was the kind of man Wayne was—always ready to lend a hand. His neighbors returned his kindness with caring visits and friendship.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother, Carlton Wood.
Wayne is survived by his son, Shannon Wood, and his partner Ronnie Serrett; his daughter, Vickie Wood Hensley, and her partner, Norman Ballowe; his grandchildren, Rachel Hensley Goldberg and her husband, Mark; Erin Hensley and her wife, Kade Wonders; Thomas Earl Wood; and William Kian Wood; and his great-granddaughters, Violet Bree Goldberg and Maia Hope Goldberg. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Batten, and her husband, Fred; and his brother, Andy Wood, and his wife, Debbie.
Dad will be deeply missed by everyone.
