Obituary of William Thomas Kennedy
William Thomas Kennedy June 18, 1932 to July 16, 2021 William Thomas “W. T.” Kennedy, 89 of Free Union Passed away peacefully Friday night at his home surrounded by family. “WT” was born in Albemarle County to the late Thomas A. Canody and Mary Smith Canody. "WT" graduated from Greenwood High School. “WT” attended VMI for 6 months before deciding to join the Navy. He left the Navy with an Honorable Discharge. He was a Charlottesville Police Officer then went to work for Liggett Myers Tobacco Company, Tetley Tea Salesman before becoming a Allstate Insurance agent where he stayed for 45 Years. “WT” was also a member of the Charlottesville Elks Lodge for 51 years. Before his illness he loved to mow his lawn in perfect straight lines. “WT” also loved playing golf, trout fishing, and surf fishing at the Outer Banks. He was a kind and gentle soul to everyone he met. “WT” is predeceased by his sisters and their husbands Lillian Ballard (Willis), and Mildred McGee (Dwight), his brother Theodore “Ted” Kennedy, his sister-in-laws Ida Davis Definbaugh and Sally Davis Howard. “WT” is survived by his devoted loving wife of 38 years Ruby Davis Kennedy, a son Edward Kennedy (Jacqueline), granddaughters Kathleen Gill (Tom), Kelly Marchal (Matt), Dorothy Hurt (Jed), great granddaughters Piper Gill, and Mattie-Windsor Hurt. Brother-In-Laws Jasper “JP” Davis (Diane), Charles Davis (Debi), Sister-in-Laws Betty Jarrell, Sue Cassell (Larry), Mary Huffman, Bertha Kennedy, a special friend Margie Shifflett, and another special friend and golfing partner Gene German. “WT” also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. A special thank you goes out to UVA 3 West Doctors and Nurses, and Hospice of the Piedmont. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church Cemetery 2523 Craig’s Store Road Afton, VA, on July 31, 2021 at 1pm, Officiating the service will be Larry Cassell. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
