Winnie Norvelle Kessler, 87 years of age, passed away at home on Sunday January, 9, 2022. Born July 26, 1934 to the late Lasalle and Lena Norvelle, she grew up along Hinton Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood, and graduated from Lane High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Kessler. She liked to tell of how they met in Virginia Beach while he was in the Navy and very quickly fell in love and were married weeks later in Goldsboro, NC in the company of two good friends who also were married soon afterwards. They remained happily married for 48 years until his death. She was also preceded in death by her Brother Raye Norvelle and his twin sister Faye Norvelle (Macwha). She is survived by her brother Fred Norvelle (Sue) of Lynchburg, Two sons, Eric Kessler and Rob Kessler, both from Charlottesville, VA, as well as her loving sister in law, Louise Norvelle (Raye) and two grandchildren. Many of her husband’s family are from Indiana and are now spread throughout. They have been very kind and supportive and always cherished them in her life. Many good times and memories were shared with them all. She had worked at the University of Virginia Bursar’s office for years as well as Citizen Bank and State Farm when it was located across from Barracks Road Shopping Center. Early in her life, she was part of two wonderful churches, being Hinton Avenue Methodist Church where she had many friends and great times, and later Maple Grove Christian Church where she developed many good friends and shared fellowship and wonderful times too countless to mention. She was a kind, sweet, beautiful person that was humble and caring and was loved dearly by all that were lucky to know her. She, as many before and after will never be replaced and there will never be one to fill her void. But she has earned her just rewards as a follower and believer of Christ and the Word of God and raised her family in that belief as well. She will be missed and remembered by those that loved her until our own time in this world has come to an end. She was truly an angel on Earth to us that loved her. She is now home with her savior and many friends and family she lost and dearly missed over the years. A Memorial service will be held February 5, 2022, 11am at Teague Funeral Service, followed by burial of her ashes at Monticello Memorial Gardens.
