EAST HARWICH– Stephen G. Howes, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 6, 2019 at his home in East Harwich after a short battle with Liver Cancer (Hepatocellular Carcinoma). He was the beloved father of Andrew David Howes of South Chatham, and Amanda Jane Howes of East Harwich. He was the oldest child of the late Edward Grafton and Mary Dahl Howes of South Chatham. Stephen grew up in South Chatham, graduated Chatham High school and continued his studies in Engineering at Northeastern University and University of Maine at Orono.
He eventually returned to Cape Cod, worked on a fishing boat out of Chatham for a while before perfecting his true craft of Carpentry. He worked as a carpenter for over 35 year in Chatham, Harwich and Nantucket. He enjoyed shell fishing in Nantucket Sound, boating and everything about the ocean and nature.
He is survived by his son Andrew, his daughter Amanda; his brother Thomas “Randy” Howes of Merritt Island, FL and sister Sally Lewis of Windham, ME; two grandchildren, Forrest and Autumn and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Steve will be missed greatly by his family, friends and customers. Steve was a true native Cape Codder, a wonderful father and a friend to all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 2nd at the Nickerson Funeral Home 87 Crowell Road in Chatham. His ashes will be privately spread by his children at all of his favorite spots around town.
