Astrid Goodin

She was born in Germany on December 14, 1947, the daughter of Irmagard and Joseph Kummert. Astrid married Gary Capps in Pittsfield, IL in 1970. She later married George Goodin, who preceded her in death.

Astrid came to America from Germany at the age of 22 where she settled in Pittsfield, IL. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL. Astrid worked at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield for many years in multiple roles before working at St. John’s Hospital in Cardiac Surgery from 1992 until 2004. After retiring, she volunteered at Simmons Cancer Center and was a Red Coat at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Astrid also enjoyed travelling to Germany, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; second husband, George; and sister, Doris Benn.

Astrid is survived by her sons, Phillip (Gail) Capps of Springfield and Michael (Nicole) Capps of Easley, SC; daughter, Kirsten Capps of Chatham; grandchildren, Madison, Ainsley, Allison, Joseph, and Grant Capps; siblings, Werner, Arming, and Roland Kummert, Hannehlore Demel, and Marget; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, until the time of the Ceremony at 12:00 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home- Chatham, 8855 State Rte. 4, Chatham.
