

Don Lynn Cloyd, 73, of Chatham passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, at St John’s Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Don was born in Springfield on January 12, 1951, to Russell “Russ” and Geraldine “Gerry” Cloyd of Chatham, Illinois.
He was a 1969 graduate of Ball Chatham Glenwood High School. After graduation, he attended Lincoln Land Community College and studied computer programming. He proudly served in the Illinois Air National Guard as an F-4 Phantom airframe mechanic in the 183rd Fighter Wing in Springfield from 1970 to 1976. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Don worked the majority of his career as a public servant for the State of Illinois and was a former member of the Chatham Jaycees.
Don loved spending time with his grandchildren (Joe, Tony, Ben, Mike), watching old western movies, cooking, and prior to his health failing, fishing and dove hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Marilyn; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Nancy (Jerry) Faulkner; his daughter, Karen Cloyd; sons, David and Ken Cloyd (Anne Schaeffer); and most importantly, his grandkids Joe, Tony, Ben, and Mike Cloyd.
Visitation will be held October 22, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home - Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. with a private family ceremony to follow.
