She was born on November 12, 1937, “down home” in Wrights, IL, the daughter of Omer L. and Starcy (Stinnett) Goode. Dovie met Ray Skaggs at a skating rink and would marry him on April 8, 1958. He preceded her in death, on April 2, 2011.
Dovie graduated from Greenfield High School in 1955. She went on to work at the Chatham bowling alley (now Butler Funeral Home in Chatham), and later for 30 years at Henry Technologies, from which she retired. Dovie enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, and fishing. She was sweet, loving, and nurturing, but was also very competitive.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Imogene Williams, Charles Goode, Benjamin Goode, Gladys Cochran, Marjorie Range, John Goode, and Omer Dean “Sonny” Goode.
Dovie is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Wood and Caryl Farrell, both of Chatham; son, Ray D. (Karee) Skaggs, Jr. of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Carrie (Brian) Humes, Mindy (Tadd) Davis, Jordan (fiancé, Briana) Skaggs, Michael Farrell, and Corey (Kayla) Farrell; four great-grandchildren and two on the way; siblings, Richard Goode and Linda Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, followed by the Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
