He was born on November 18, 1980, in Springfield, and was a loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Jacob attended Glenwood Junior High and later Glenwood High School, both in Chatham, IL. While at GHS, he excelled on the speech team and competed in the Original Oratory category and won a good number of the events. The Capital Area Career Center gave him an award for his work there for hosting the “Shakey Jake” radio show. In the summers, he liked going to the Easterseals camp in Hudson, IL, where he camped, canoed and even rode a horse!
After high school, he attended the Southern Illinois University Evaluation and Development Center and learned many skills to live independently. He became a greeter at Meijer and worked there for the last twenty-four years. Many workers and shoppers in the area looked forward to his winning smile. He took great pride in the home he owned through Habitat for Humanity.
Jacob loved all kinds of music, the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, the Masters, anything to do with wrestling, and his family and friends. His heart was so big and his laugh so contagious. He is now golfing with Bill and riding with Kath as she speeds around heaven. He is also visiting with many Kane and Martin family members and friends who have passed (even his friends who were Cardinals fans), laughing, dancing, and, of course, wrestling.
He is survived by his father, Robert Martin; stepmother, Beth Martin; dear sister, Allison (Kevin) Braasch; nephew, Sebastian; and niece, Julia; as well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be missed but remembered with smiles.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive visitors from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, followed by the Ceremony at 12:00 p.m. A private burial service will be held afterwards for family only.
