Jewell Katherine Cheek, born on October 27, 1927, to Milford and Maggie Bush, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026. She lived a life centered on faith, family, and love. Her greatest joy was spending time with those she loved, especially her cherished grandson, Derick, whom she delighted in spoiling.
Jewell is survived by her daughter, Ginger (Gerry) Gardiner; her grandson, Derick (Amelia); sisters, Joyce (Robert) Mullins and Winnie Cash; grandchildren, Joseph (Alicia) Gardiner, and Jessica (Ty) Young; great-grandchildren, Anna, Adam, Scarlett, Owen, Emma, and Breanna; granddog, Georgie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, General Cheek; son, Rick Cheek; brother, Leslie Bush; and sisters, Marie Neff, Thelma Dudney, and Christine Shackleford.
Jewell's legacy is one of devotion, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League in her honor.
A private funeral ceremony was held at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
