

He was born on September 25, 1945, in Springfield, IL, the son of Steve and Phyllis (Coton) Magyar. Stephen married Sharron Delay on October 17, 1965, in Auburn, IL.
Stephen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1966-1968 as a medic, and earned a medal of valor. He went on to work for Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company, retiring in 2001 after 37 years of service. Stephen was a member of Ansar Shriners Jeepsters in Springfield, and Mason Lodge #523. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Stephen Brown and Zachary Lyon; daughter, Tammy Hoskins; and brother, Raymond Magyar.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Sharron Magyar; daughter, Stephanie L. (Chad) Hoover; grandchildren, Amber and Morgan Hoskins, and Cheyenne (Matthew) Becker-Hoover; great-grandchildren, Lilly Hoskins, Jason Lyon, Bailey Hoskins, Skylar Shoemaker, and Raylynd and Nova Utinske; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Jeff) Edmiston, Nicole Magyar, Angela Richardson, Valaree McCarry, Denise Ridgway, Jamie Klaverkamp, Jeffrey, Chris, and Bradley Wallace, Renee Barger, Aimee Donnellon, and Joshua, Daniel, and Sam White; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Masonic Rights will commence at 5:30 p.m.
A Graveside Ceremony will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided, at a later date.
