He was born on November 26, 1946, in Gary, IN, the son of Douglas Sr. and Martha (Askfelt) Wilkins. Timothy married Donna M. Coch on October 31, 1970, in South Bend, IN. She preceded him in death, on March 3, 2018.
Timothy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and received several honors, including the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Beyond his military service, Timothy was a man who embraced life with purpose and heart. He was a proud member of hunting, fishing, aviation, and Bible study clubs, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Whether sharing stories, enjoying the outdoors, or mowing his lawn, Timothy found joy in the simple things. He loved his country deeply and held a steadfast faith in God that guided him throughout his life.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Timothy is survived by his children, Todd (Stacy) Wilkins of Dayton, OH, Timothy Jr. (Rachel) Wilkins of Washington, IL, Theodore (Nita) Wilkins of Peoria, IL, and Theresa (Scott) McMurray of Chatham; grandchildren, Elora, Aurelia, Toren, Walker, Lyla, Maisy, Jaedon, Payton, Marcus, and Ireland; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Douglas Jr. (Betty) Wilkins and Michelle (Thomas) Ferris.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors provided.
