Alice D. Salos, born on December 10, 1925, in Framingham, Massachusetts, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 100. Alice, who recently celebrated her centennial birthday surrounded by family and friends, was a resident of Chatham, Massachusetts, and formerly of Wayland, Massachusetts.
Alice was the beloved daughter of John F. Lewis and Alice "Crotty" Lewis of Framingham, Massachusetts. She pursued her passion for nursing, earning her RN degree from Framingham Union Nursing School in 1948. That same year, she married Emanuel "Manny" Salos from Natick, Massachusetts, with whom she shared 70 years of devoted marriage.
Alice is survived by her loving daughter, Kathryn Salos of Roswell, Georgia; her grandson, Dr. Nicholas Beale and his wife, Sarah Hamby, of Norman, Oklahoma; and her granddaughter, Tiffany Buker and her husband, Wayne Buker, of Woodstock, Georgia. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Logan Buker and Maeve Beale-Hamby. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel Salos, her sister, Marion Crowley, and her brothers, John Lewis, William Lewis, and Robert Lewis.
After raising her daughter, Alice returned to her nursing career at St. John of God Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, for several years. She was deeply involved in her community, actively participating in the Wayland Women's Club and serving as both a member and president of the Woodridge Garden Club. Alice chaired the committee for Christmas decorating at the historic Grout-Heard House and was a devoted member of St. Ann's Catholic Church for over 50 years in Wayland. She was a charter member of the Parmenter Community Board and an avid supporter of the Wayside Hospice, a cause she held dear to her heart
In 1996, at the age of 70, Alice began power walking in the 100th anniversary of the Boston Marathon to raise funds for the construction of the Parmenter Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice. She continued walking for several years until two major surgeries temporarily sidelined her. However, two years later, she resumed her efforts, walking until the age of 80 to raise further donations for the Wayside Hospice, where a hospice room is named in her honor.
Alice's countless gifts of time and treasure were a testament to her generous spirit. She was always ready with a helping hand and a welcoming smile. Above all, her greatest passion was her family.
A private family Mass will be held at a later time at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Chatham, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parmenter Foundation, 260 Boston Post Road, Suite 5, Wayland, MA 01778, ATTENTION HOSPICE BED SUBSIDY.
