Ana A. Blanchfield ESQ

Ana Amor Gomez-Blanchfield died peacefully at her home on March 12, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, daughters, and sister.

Born in Manila, Philippines, Ana was the eldest daughter of the late Governor Benjamin and Anita Gomez of Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and the granddaughter of Luisa Mapa Gomez of Manila. She graduated from the University of the Philippines and later earned her JD from New England School of Law. She began her law career as an attorney with the Hyannis law firm of Furman, Cannon & Ross, P.C. For the past 16 years, Ana’s private practice in Chatham focused on employment law.

One of Ana’s great passions was teaching, which began with her time as an English literature teacher at the International Schools in Manila and The Hague. For the past 15 years, she served as an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts School of Law where she shared her love of the law with her students.

Above all, Ana enjoyed spending time with her husband, daughters, and large extended family. She lived her life with grace and kindness, earning the admiration of those who knew her. In her spare time, she could be found needlepointing, talking with her daughters and grandson, and working in her garden.

Ana is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Jim Blanchfield, and daughters Luisa Blanchfield and her husband Brendan Gallagher of Washington, DC, and Tessa Blanchfield and her husband Won Joon Kim of Boston. She also leaves behind her cherished grandson and partner-in-crime, James Hill Gallagher; loving sister Pinky Stearns and her husband Peter; brother Pepito and his wife Julie; brother Caloy; and Marites Gomez, wife of her late brother Nestor. She will also be missed by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.

A private memorial will be held at the Wayside Inn in Chatham.
