Andrew C. Marx

August 6, 1931July 26, 2018

Marx, Andrew C. (Charles), 86, beloved husband and father, passed away at home in Chatham MA on July 26th 2018 of congestive heart failure. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Baltimore MD, the eldest son of 9 children born to Elizabeth Coulter Marx and Andrew C. Marx Sr. He attended Loyola High School and Loyola College in Baltimore where he received a B.S. in Accounting. He completed an MBA in Accounting and Finance at the University of Bridgeport and was a certified public accountant.

After completing his studies he served 4 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Bridgeport, CT, he met and married his wife, the former Sheila Greaney in November 1958. Together they raised a family of 4 children in Trumbull, CT where they were active members of the community for 40 years before retiring to Chatham where they had spent many happy summer days.

He began his career as an accountant in the manufacturing industry, a field he worked in his entire career. He became Chief Financial Officer of Consolidated Controls Corporation and Unimation Robotics, the world’s first industrial robotics company. Later, he served as Vice President of Times Fiber Communications and retired as Executive Vice President of Waring Products.

He enjoyed more than 20 happy years in Chatham where he was an active member of the Monomoy Yacht Club, the Chatham Retired Men’s Club and the Chatham Newcomers Club. He served on the Board of Chatham’s “Art of Charity”, was an avid patron of the Eldredge Public Library and supporter of the Chatham Anglers. As a transplanted Baltimorean he grew to love life in the small seaside village, enjoying all the pastimes on the water that the Cape has to offer. He was dedicated to his parish community in Trumbull at St. Theresa and in Chatham at Holy Redeemer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, immensely proud of his family, and happiest when surrounded by his family and friends.

He leaves his wife Sheila (Greaney) Marx of Chatham, Marybeth Marx (Eric Whittall, Boyd and Ian Whittall of Guilford CT), Ellen Marx Zeyen (Christoph, Oscar and Lucas Zeyen) of Chatham, Maura Marx of Boston and Andrew C. Dear Marx family,
I was very sad to see Mr. Marx had passed. He will always be Mr. Marx to me as are Mr. McHugh and Dr. Manjoney. His friendship and guidance meant so much to me in my youth and still do. I truly miss all of you and wish I could be there. Know my prayers are with you.
Love Always, Mark

Sheila and family,
I will always remember Andy for his sense of humor and his ability to recognize previously undiscovered potential in people that worked with and for him. I worked for Andy at Waring for several years and describe him to friends as the best boss I ever had but even more; one of the best people I have ever known. I am truly sad to hear of his passing and wish you and your family my sincere condolences.
