Anne Marie Schimmel (Deshler) "Annie" Chatham, MA January 29, 1940 - August 3, 2021

Anne Marie Schimmel (81) passed away peacefully August 3, 2021. She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 64 years Peter A. Schimmel , and her two children son Peter Schimmel Jr, daughter Pamela McMahon and husband John McMahon, and granddaughter Jennifer Mersky.

Anne was born in Cambridge MA where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. After graduating she married and resided in Milton MA, Mason and Francestown New Hampshire, finding permanent residence in Chatham MA.

A dedicated mother, she was actively involved in boy scouts and girl scouts and volunteered in all activities for her children. Annie then continued her education earning a degree in education from Cape Cod Community College. She eventually worked at the Nauset Middle School until she retired in 1995. The lifelong friends she made there would become her most loyal and lasting friendships. The stories of their many adventures together would prove to be the makings of a top notch sitcom for sure!

Annie and her family spent cherished summers at their family cottage on Cape Cod Bay. She was the best first mate on countless sailing trips along the northeast coast aboard The Pegasus. Annie loved dancing, being outdoors, summer storms, gardening, and organizing absolutely EVERYTHING! One of her favorite pastimes was reading. She was an avid reader of historical dramas, dark mysteries, and crime novels. Her favorite to be sure was curling up and getting lost in the pages of romance novels by Nora Roberts.

She was a beacon of light for all that who knew her, always available to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

A family member best described her as follows:

Annie touched a stadium of souls. She embraced all with that “heart hug- made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. She had no sharp edges... dressed in bright colors like a tropical bird … giving love, a laugh, and kindness with everyone.. Her name means gracious and merciful Her spirit is love. “ THE GREATEST SECRETS ARE ALWAYS HIDDEN IN THE MOST UNLIKELY PLACES.THOSE WHO DONT BELIEVE IN MAGIC WILL NEVER FIND IT” R.D. She definitely found it, everywhere she went.

A private celebration of life to be held for family in the future. Memorial donations in her name may be made to St Jude's for children, or the American Cancer Society.

Dear Peter, Pam and Pete,
I was so sorry to hear this news. Anne Marie was dear to everyone in my family, and I have especially fond memories of spending part of the summer in Chatham with you all when I was 16. Anne Marie was one of the most loving people I've ever known and I can only imagine how badly she'll be missed.
Thinking of you--

Mrs. Schimmel was the most fashionable, upbeat, and cool educator at Nauset Regional Middle School when I was a student there from 1980-1984. She always had a smile on her face and heels on her feet. I was in awe as a young girl, she seemed like a movie star to me. Clearly from all of the posts she was just that to her family and friends. Love and light to you all and please know she lives on in many a heart.

Dear Schimmel Family,
So very sad to hear that Anne (Mrs. Schimmel) past away. She was a rare person....with so much energy, love, and beauty inside and out!
All of my family treasure the summer memories spent on Shore Dr. as your neighbors. My brother Steve says Mrs. Schimmel was "the queen of our Camelot days on Cape Cod." I couldn't agree more.
I feel privileged to have known her.

With Much Love and Sympathy,

Anne's love of life was her aura. She was a glorious being who always brought joy, laughter and love to every situation. Whether you were a neighbor from decades ago shopping in a grocery store or attending a play in a theater, it didn't matter. Hugs and hellos for everyone she knew. I am delighted to say she was a friend and if my mom were still alive, she'd say the same thing. They're probably reminiscing over coffee in heaven and having lots of laughs!! Love & sympathy, Barbara Cahoon

Mom in all her full color beauty... I love you mom
I will be treating myself in your honor to a roast beef au jus on brioche roll finished off ( on a different day!) an ice cream sundae with caramel AND fudge sauce.
