Tony was born in Boston on April 8, 1919, to Gerardo and Rose (Andreotti) Scanzillo. He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. He was also the Cadet Colonel of The Boston School Cadets. After graduation he attended Northeastern University.
Tony married Evelyn Maynes together they moved from Boston to Dedham where they lived for the next forty years, raising their family. In 1938, he established Scanzillo Company., a trucking and general construction company.
In 1942, Tony enlisted in the US Army. A decorated soldier, he served several active duty tours in the Pacific War Theatre during WWII. After his many years of military service, he continued operating Scanzillo Company, and later established A.T. Scanzillo Co. Inc., a commercial and industrial general construction firm.
Tony was a loyal supporter of Dedham athletics and youth activities. He also was mindful of support for the elderly, dedicating his time for service for the past several years.
Predeceased by his wife Evelyn, he leaves behind five children: Joseph, of Scituate, Michael, of Middleboro, Mark, of Marshfield, Maryellen, of Hanover and Donna of Harwich; his sister Lena Laura of Winthrop, six grandchildren: Thomas, Andrew and Christopher Scanzillo all of Scituate, and Michaela, Stephanie and Nicholas Scanzillo all of Marshfield, and his one great-grandson Jacob Andrew Scanzillo of Scituate, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank, of Billerica and sister Frances of Hanover.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday Nov. 2, at the Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, MA, followed by burial in Peoples Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday Nov. 1, from 5-7 Pm at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham, MA 02633.
