Obituary of Beverly Ann Chace
Beverly Ann Chace, age 87, of Brewster, MA, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022 with family by her side. Formerly Beverly Morse of Gardner, MA, she was known for her generous spirit while participating in numerous activities within her community and the Congregational Church. Gifted with a “golden” voice she sang in the choir and performed in numerous operettas and musicals during high school. While attending Tufts University, she had the privilege of singing in the Handel and Haydn society and performed in many prestigious music centers around Boston. Beverly also enjoyed athletic pursuits including horseback riding, spending time in Vermont and later at Tufts University developing a lifelong love of horses. After graduating with a degree in English, Beverly married Alston Chace, also a Gardner high alum in 1955. She then began traveling the world as a military chaplain’s wife, mother and English teacher. With 14 assignments over 30 years of active duty, Beverly lived throughout the United States and Europe carrying out a ministry of public service and outreach. During that time Beverly gained recognition for her contributions and dedication when she received the Military Wife of the Year award from the Air Force Headquarters Command, Washington D.C. After earning a Masters in English, one of her greatest joys was teaching Shakespeare and classic literature to students on the many bases they lived. While on tour, she displayed her adventurous spirit when riding camels in Egypt, surviving a coup while on a holiday and taking multiple tours to Russia. Once retired, Beverly enjoyed her life in Brewster as a member of Holy Spirit Church in Orleans, the Cape Cod Tufts Club, studying at the CCCC Academy for Lifelong Learning, hosting family and rescuing sea turtles stranded on the bay beaches. Predeceased by her husband, Alston R. Chace in 2019 and son James in 1983, she will be dearly missed by her son John Chace and wife Kristin of Canonsburg, PA, daughter Carey Loving of Brewster, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A private memorial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC, at a future date. The family welcomes memorial donations to Rosewood Manor, 671 Main St, Harwich, MA 02645.
