Born on June 29, 1952 in Manhattan, New York to Clarence Watson Sr. and Inez Jean (Malloy) Watson. Clarence lived life on his own terms, a life defined by integrity, hard work, perseverance, and, always, laughter and love. He was an only child who spent his early childhood forging a way for himself on the streets of New York. He was very proud of being an electrician and served as a Union 3 Electrician in New York for more than 40 years. He was a second generation member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. Through his skill, reliability, and dedication to his field, he earned the respect of his colleagues, who became his brothers. He took pride in his work and his ability to mentor and inspire those around him. He was a 9/11 survivor, and his quick decision to evacuate his crew from 2 World Trade Center saved many lives, including his own.
Clarence was a caring husband, father, and grandfather, a supportive cousin, and a loyal friend. His charm, charisma, quick wit and excellent sense of humor ensured that he befriended people everywhere he went. He truly was a man who never met a stranger.
He loved his life on the Cape. He spent his time with his wife, D, driving down to the beach(and leaving his car running with the door open), whale watching in Provincetown, sharing life stories and good times with friends at The Red Nun, going fishing, and talking about taking his kayak out on the water.
His love of fishing was only superseded by his love for his family. He enjoyed making his daughters laugh, sharing his thoughtful takes on world issues, and providing life guidance. His heart was filled when he passed down knowledge to his grandchildren on a multitude of subjects and saw their eyes light up. His generous heart, wisdom, sense of humor and quiet strength left a lasting impact on all of us fortunate enough to have known him.
He is survived by his wife, Donetta; his children, Ariana Roberts-Watson, Ashley Watson and Chelsea Watson; his grandchildren, Ella and Maddox Roberts-Watson; and many other relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the lives he touched will continue to shine brightly. We will find comfort in all the ways that he continues to live on in us and through us.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 444 Cockle Cove Rd, South Chatham MA 02659 and on Saturday, October 17th at Bodega 88, 573 Columbus Ave, New York, New York 10024. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring him.
May he rest in peace.
