David Joseph Carvalho passed over peacefully at home on September 3rd, looking out at Pleasant Bay in Orleans, Massachusetts—the corner of the world he loved most. He was surrounded by family, as well as many friends who were like family to him. He was 91.
David was born on March 12th, 1932, to Ilidio and Marie Carvalho, who were both born in Portugal and came to the United States as young adults.
He was a devoted brother to his two sisters, Edith and Nancy, and especially devoted to his mother. His loving daughter, Suzanne, and his grandchildren, David and Graziella, were the light of his life.
David was also proud to be part of a large group of childhood friends from Brockton, whose friendships were formed in elementary school and continue to this day. He was smart, lovingly loyal, and an honest and true friend.
David resided half the year in his other favorite place, Bonita Springs, Florida, where he had many, many people who loved him, and whom he loved so much. He was an excellent golfer and so passionate about the game that he shot his age from the time he was 80 years old until 2023.
His sense of humor was intact until the very end. So were his enviable negotiating skills. In fact, had he known the current cost of obituaries, he would have no doubt negotiated that deal before he departed.
He also embraced all that life had to offer. Even in his worst moments, when his daughter asked how he was feeling, his response was always, “Perfect.” With one exception. When, after a thoughtful moment of reflection, he replied, “Confident.”
A Celebration of Life will be held September 12th, 3:00-6:00 p.m., at the Wequassett Inn in Harwich, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to The Friends of Pleasant Bay, www.friendsofpleasantbay.org
