Donald Davol Kenney passed away on May 18, 2014. Beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” Morse Kenney. Loving and proud father of Owen Kenney and his wife Julia Buckman Kenney, and Tara Kenney Rubin and her husband Benjamin Rubin. Loving stepfather to Carrie and Mamie Spillane. Dear brother of Sharon Kenney Biddle and William Biddle. Beaming new grandfather to Stella Rubin.
Born and raised in Auburndale MA, Don settled in Chatham MA where he raised two children with his former wife, Kathleen and served as one of the town’s most memorable volunteer coaches for youth soccer, basketball and baseball. He fished and shellfished commercially before moving into wholesale seafood production, sales and distribution. For over 25 years, Don served as President of Downeast Seafood Specialty Products, the premier provider of frozen lobster and crab products to restaurants and food service distributors throughout North America. Don graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion MA in 1968 and from Amherst College in 1978. His incorrigible dorm mates from Tabor remained his closest lifelong friends.
Don’s sense of humor and intensity rendered him a relentless competitor in bocce, ping pong, pool and hearts. He loved the Red Sox, his gardens, fruit trees, dogs, bees, chickens, his boat (the “Miss Peg”), and his football pool - not necessarily in that order. He was a phenom on the dance floor. He cherished his time with Peggy, his partner and best friend. His character and personality were larger than life; he was a force of nature, unforgettable, an incredible husband, dad, brother and friend. He will be missed beyond words.
In place of traditional services, a clambake will be held on Sunday, June 1st from 11am to 5pm at 394 Barn Hill Road in Chatham to commemorate and celebrate Don. All are welcome and encouraged to join. From 12pm-1pm on that day, festivities will pause for spoken thoughts and memories to be shared.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to Chatham’s Orpheum Theater, or to the Town of Chatham Recreation Department (Youth Sports).
