
Ellen L. Farris (Nickerson), 93, of Chatham passed away on July 4, 2015. She was a 12th Generation descendent of William Nickerson, founder of Chatham, born in Chatham to Nina L. (Doane) and Willard H. Nickerson of Chatham.
Ellen’s energy is shown in her vast work history. She worked as a pastry cook at the Old Harbor Inn of Chatham, as a Riveter at the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, CT, as the cafeteria manager Chatham Elementary School, as records clerk at the Chatham Police Department, and as secretary of the Chatham United Methodist Church where she was a longtime parishioner and member of the UMW. She also served in the U.S. Navy as a First Class Seaman during WWII for Navy Radio Station “C” in Chatham.
Ellen is survived by her 3 sons William H. Farris Jr and his wife Elaine of Chatham, Calvin H. Farris and his wife Becky of Middleboro MA, and Ronald I Farris of Chatham; sisters Joanne Hughes of Naples FL, Alice Dexter of Germantown Tennessee; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William H. Farris of Chatham.
Her graveside service in Seaside Cemetery, Chatham, MA will be private. Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
