George Ronald Armbruster

January 27, 1927November 8, 2019

CHATHAM - G. Ronald Armbruster, 92, a resident of Harwich Port, MA, previously of Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2019 in Chatham. He was the loving husband of B. Evaline (Wilson) Armbruster.

Born in Cumberland, MD on January 27, 1927, Ron was the son of the late Robert W. Armbruster and Eunice (Rollins) Armbruster.

Upon graduating from high school in Cumberland, where he enjoyed playing various sports, especially baseball, he enlisted at age 17 in the Army Air Force. He was stationed in Panama during the last year of WWII and attained the rank of Sargent. He had two brothers, the late Robert Armbruster who served in the European Theatre in the Army Air Force and the late Glenn Armbruster who was killed in action on a bombing mission in the Pacific Theatre.

In 1947, Ron married his high school sweetheart and “love of his life” Evaline (Evie). He graduated from Babson College in Wellesley, MA with a degree in Business. He and Evie made their home in Wellesley until Evie’s passing in 2003, shortly after which he moved to Harwich Port, MA. He was a banker for 39 years, primarily at Shawmut Bank in Boston where he was Vice President of Operations. Ron and Evie were very active in Wellesley with friends, social groups, and charitable organizations. When Ron moved to Harwich Port, he continued his involvement in charitable activities including serving as assistant treasurer of Pilgrim Congregational Church and working at the Family Pantry in Harwich. He enjoyed an unexpected “second calling” as a cameraman for local Harwich Port Channel 18, and had fun doing interviews with summer tourists and local businesspeople. He was also a member of the Masons and participated in fund-raising for their charitable activities.

His lifelong passions were baseball, tennis, skiing and travelling with Evie. He loved spending treasured time with friends and family, especially his two grandsons.

He leaves behind a son, Glenn Armbruster and wife Rebecca, grandson Jeffrey Armbruster and wife Lacy, grandson Christopher Armbruster and his wife Katie, and great granddaughters Avery and Arden Armbruster, all of Austin, Texas.

A funeral service at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port will be celebrated at a time to be determined next summer. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley, MA.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ron’s memory to The Family Pantry, 133 Queen Anne Road, Harwich, MA. 02645. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
