George L. Snider III

July 8, 1963February 7, 2018

On Feb. 7, George succumbed to the cancer that he so courageously fought over the past nine months. He leaves behind his father, George L. Snider Jr. and his mother, Sheila Snider, as well as his brother Tom, of Middlebury, CT, and his sister, Katherine of New York (husband, George Schwimmer). He also leaves a niece, Madeleine Snider, and 3 nephews: Benjamin Snider, and Tobey and Riley Schwimmer.

George was born in Boston on July 8, 1963. Growing up in Montreal, he developed an interest in all things sports -related. During summer vacations on the Cape, his main focus was organizing baseball games with his friends from dawn to dusk in his West Chatham neighborhood. A lifetime avid reader with a wide range of academic interests, he was an advocate of the saying, “I never let school stand in the way of my education” and he became a self-taught scholar in such fields as history, philosophy, politics and sports. With a prodigious memory for details, he was a member of the Loyola High School Reach for the Top TV trivia team who made it to the Canadian Championship Finals in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland.

Each spring he would spend many hours researching and meticulously planning his yearly trips to major cities both in the U.S. and abroad, culminating in a trip to London and Paris in March, 2017.

He gravitated to the restaurant business and worked in a variety of restaurants in Boston and on the Cape, eventually settling in Chatham where he worked at Pate’s Restaurant as a chef for over 25 years. Many customers and co- workers appreciated his sharp wit and fun-loving nature and became part of the entourage of loyal and devoted friends that he treasured over his lifetime.

Visiting hours are 4:00 to 7:00 on Friday, Feb 23 at Nickerson Funeral Home, Chatham, with a Memorial Mass at Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 10:00 am.

Donations in his name may be made to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, S. Dennis, or the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Redeemer Parish, Chatham.
