Obituary of Irwin J. Sitkin

Irwin J. Sitkin, 1930-2024, passed away peacefully August 4th with family at his side. After graduating from Cornell University, followed by serving in the U.S. Air Force in Korean War, Irwin began a rewarding career at Aetna Life & Casualty in 1954, culminating as Senior Vice-President of Corporate Communications. While there he had the privilege of bringing Steve Jobs’ newly developed desktop computing into the corporate workplace.

In the early 1950’s, the Sitkins started vacationing in Chatham, MA and later bought a home there as their summer residence. Soon after Irwin retired from The Aetna he and Helen made Aventura, FL their primary home.

Irwin was a devoted golfer both on Cape Cod and in Florida. As a collector of unique antique woodworking planes and tape measures, he and Helen regularly attended the Early American Industries Association gatherings. He was involved in, and honored by, numerous community organizations. He and Helen were the leaders of People To People, an IT delegation to Russia, China and Eastern Europe.

Irwin was born in Middletown, CT to Leo and Anna (Gurland) Sitkin where the family was active members of Adath Israel Synagogue. Raised in Brooklyn, he met his wife of almost 73 years, Helen Fiedel Sitkin at Lafayette High School. Irwin is survived by his wife and best friend, Helen, son Marc B. Sitkin and wife Judith (Gordon) Sitkin (MA), and daughter Jill M. Sitkin (CT) and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Benton and sister, Sharon Chaiet.
