Joe was born to the late Elizabeth and Joseph McCullough on March 7, 1932, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School in 1950, received a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from The University of Vermont in 1954. Joe then graduated from the Executive Management Program of Dartmouth College's Amos Tuck School of Business.
Joe proudly served as a First Lieutenant, Acting Captain, in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the 187th Regiment of the 11th Airborne of the Eighth Army. Upon return, he began a lifelong career with Turner Construction Company. He retired as the Senior Executive Vice President responsible for the North Central Group.
Joe was predeceased by his first wife of thirty-four happy years, Paula Hefferman McCullough, their son Robert, daughter Elizabeth, and granddaughter Devin Moriarty. He is survived by their children; Catherine McCullough, Martha McCullough Moriarty and husband Stephen, Anne McCullough Day and husband Michael, Megan McCullough Angus and husband Derek, and Matthew McCullough and wife Cristina, and step-daughter Carrie Salvatore. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Brenna Moriarty, Liam, Finn, and Rory Day, Molly and Owen McCullough, and James, Nathaniel, and William Angus. He is also survived by his beloved wife of thirteen joyful years Beverly and his faithful companion, Callahan.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 12th from 4 to 8 pm at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 57 Highland Avenue, on September 13th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in People’s Cemetery, Chatham, MA.
