June Carolyn (Turner) Hereford, 88, a longtime resident of Chatham, passed away on March 13th at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Chatham. June was born in New Jersey in 1931 and raised in Montclair. She graduated from Montclair High School in 1949 before going on to attend the University of Delaware and Upsala College.
After college, June worked in the Sales and Display departments of Hahne & Co. Department Stores in Montclair and Newark, NJ.
She married in 1957 and moved to Avon Lake, Ohio, where her three children were born. In 1968 the family moved to Chatham, MA.
When the children were older, she went to work at the Cape Codder Newspaper, where she was the Advertising Coordinator for thirteen years. Before retiring in 2000, she also worked for several years in her daughter’s decorating business, Simpler Pleasures, in Chatham.
She loved music, and sang in the choir of the Congregational Church in Chatham as well as in the Chatham Chorale for many years. She was also interested in politics and animal welfare.
She is survived by her three children, Heather McGrath (Orleans), James Christopher Hereford (Harwich) and Jill Caskey (Barrington, RI), her brother, Robert E.L. Turner (Half Moon Bay, CA), 7 grandchildren, 2 nephews and 1 niece.
