April 27, 1940–June 6, 2021
Madeline Silvester went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was born April 27, 1940 in New York City, daughter of the late Frank and Marie Lofaro. She was a graduate of Saint Lawrence Academy and received a degree in education from Hunter College. She married Ralph Silvester on July 6, 1968, and lived in Simsbury, CT, where they raised their family until they made Chatham their permanent residence in 2000.
Madeline’s family was the center of her life. As a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, cousin, mother of four boys, mother-in-law of four daughters and grandmother of nine, she kept everyone near and dear by adorning the walls and all available surfaces throughout their home with family photographs. Her grandchildren, whom she called her angels, held a special place in her heart and she loved each of them completely.
Madeline’s family will always remember her at the beach, her happy place, where she was just as content to sit with a sleeping grandbaby as she was to swim with her older grandchildren until late in the day. She also expressed her love with food and often gathered her friends and family together, especially for holiday meals. Her birthday cakes, no matter the requested flavor combination, made for extra special celebrations. Madeline stayed true to her Italian heritage and traditions, so there was always a seat at her table where Grandma’s Cookies, and many other family recipes, were prepared and shared with all.
Madeline was a lifelong travel bug, accomplished at knitting and crocheting, enjoyed games, and was an avid reader and book club member. She served on the Holy Redeemer Women’s Club since moving to the Cape and was involved in other local charities. She was a loyal friend who generously offered her time, words of encouragement and selfless love.
Madeline will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 53 years Ralph Silvester, her boys Sal Silvester (Rachel), Frank Silvester (Betsy), RJ Silvester (Amy) and Michael Silvester (Jilanne), her brother Michael Lofaro (Anna), and her angels Luke Silvester, Libby Silvester, Madeline Silvester, Emily Silvester, Dominic Silvester, Nicholas Silvester, Eli Silvester, Luciano Silvester, and Max Silvester and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Frank Lofaro and sister-in-law Dolores Errity (Michael).
A public visitation will be held on Monday, June 14, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road in Chatham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 15, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Chatham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (https://ssvpusa.org/) in Madeline’s honor. If donating, please indicate in the donor notes to apply the donation to the Holy Redeemer Conference in Chatham. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
