Peggy and Art were neighbors and close friends of my husband's family. I started to know her when I began dating Jerry in 1974, as they were frequent guests in the Long household. While Peggy was always a great sounding board whenever I sought advise (everything from planning a wedding and buying a home to raising a family) she changed our lives when she introduced green tomato relish! It was the FIRST recipe I ever asked anyone for and it has been a staple in my home ever since. Peggy talked me through my first attempts at canning and at making green tomato relish. It is actually anxiety producing in my home when we are down to one jar (as we are now) and we literally sit down to SCHEDULE a time to make the next double-batch. I can't open a jar without always thinking of Peggy. In the past 2 years, I've had a conference in Chatham MA and Jerry has joined me there. We've been able to meet up with Art and Peggy for lunch or dinner each year. It has been so special reconnecting with them. Our love and deepest sympathies to Art, Chris, Karen and Lauren (who was born on our wedding day, with Art going back and forth between our wedding and the hospital!) and the grandchildren.
