She was predeceased by her husband, Colie Yeaw, and is survived by her sons, Coleman and John (Tigger), their wives Yumiko and Marnie, and three grandchildren Cole, Wescott and Kathrine.
She was born in Cleveland Ohio, daughter of John Wescott Blemker and Virginia Page (McBurney) Blemker. She grew up in Fort Mitchell, KY, outside Cincinnati. She attended the Seven Hills School and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College. Upon graduating, she spent several years teaching English and History in Cincinnati and New York,
In 1963, she married Coleman (Colie) Yeaw in 1963. Together, they were long-time residents of Old Greenwich, CT, where they raised their family. She was a very active volunteer, and served on the boards of the Junior League of Greenwich and Greenwich YWCA where she served as board chair. She was later appointed to the board of the YWCA USA, one of the oldest and largest non-profit multicultural women’s organizations in the world. Nancy was a founding partner of Interact, an organizational development consulting firm. In 1992, She and Colie retired to Chatham, where they were long time summer residents.
Nancy was a passionate reader, and was rarely at home without a book nearby. She also loved history, and dedicated herself to historical preservation in Chatham. She was a long-time volunteer on the Historical Commission, and served as chairperson. She was also deeply involved with the Chatham Historical Society. Nanner had an incredible combination of curiosity, intelligence, kindness and grace that touched all those who knew her.
A service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, May 13 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Chatham. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chatham Historical Society at 347 Stage Harbor Rd., Chatham, MA 02633, would be welcomed.
