CHATHAM- Paula Theresa Kraus, 95, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2020 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation Center in Westborough. Paula grew up in the Bronx, daughter of the late Frederick Schmidlein and Paula Theiss Schmidlein. Paula Theresa lost her mother to tuberculosis at the age of three. Frederick subsequently remarried to Louise Stadeley, also of the Bronx. Paula graduated from the Villa Academy and worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper for Manufacturers Trust for several years before marrying the late Charles J. Kraus, an electrical engineer and childhood acquaintance. Wholely devoted to family, Paula and Charles moved to the Hudson Valley in 1953, where Charles was employed by International Business Machines, and where they raised six children, before retiring to the Cape in 1987. Paula is survived by five sons and a daughter: Charles Jr. and his wife, Janet Maney, of Southborough; Robert and his wife, Ellissa (Leahy) of Westborough; John, of Chatham; Peter and his wife Kathy Ann (Hall) of Tynsborough; Stephen and his wife Jean (Chun), of Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and Paula Louise, of Woodstock, New Hampshire. Paula is survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Paula loved raising her grandchildren and nurturing her grandchildren more than anything and she was greatly devoted to Saint Anthony. Due to COVID-19 guest restrictions, the funeral service and burial will be private.
