
Pete was born in Washington D.C. on October 16, 1953. He grew up in Chatham, graduated from Chatham High School in 1971 and attended Cape Cod Community College.
Since 1977, he has worked at The Chatham Squire and there he became part of a large extended family with his mentor, Richard Costello at the helm. He was surrounded by many caring people who became his pals for life (PFL).
Peter served on the Pals For Life Foundation board of directors, and was one of the organization’s founders. PFL is a foundation dedicated to helping those in the hospitality industry who are facing a catastrophic event.
Peter is survived by his sister Veronica Terrio and her husband Robert of Harwich, his brother Frank Shelley and his wife Diane of Weymouth and two nephews and two nieces. He is predeceased by his father Frank Shelley, his mother Veronica Shelley and his brother James.
Pete is also survived by his large extended family of friends who cared about him each in their own unique way. Pete’s kind gestures and quick witted sense of humor will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
A tribute to Pete’s giving nature and a celebration of his life are scheduled for Sunday, January 5 from noon to 4 pm at The Chatham Squire, with a special service of remembrance at 1 pm. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the PFL Foundation, c/o The Chatham Squire, 487 Main Street, Chatham, Ma 02633 for a scholarship fund that will be set up in Pete’s name.
