

Robert W. “Bob” Tompkins, 90, of Chatham, MA passed away July 1, 2015. He was born September 26, 1924 to the late Herbert and Katherine Tompkins in Ossining, NY. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the beloved husband of the late Catherine Tompkins. He lived in Tarrytown, NY from 1956 to 1986 before moving to Chatham, where he lived for 30 years.
Bob graduated from Ossining High School. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Navy and served admirably from 1940 to 1945. He served in combat in Okinawa on the Navy supply ship USS Chilton. He then worked for the Bell Telephone Company for 30 years.
He was an avid sports fan, gardener, and lover of animals. He was also a longtime parishioner of Holy Redeemer Church.
He is survived by his three sons Bruce R. (Jean) Tompkins of Redding, CT, Brian P. (Jeanette) Tompkins of Ossining, NY, and Barry J. (Donna) Tompkins of East Harwich, MA; his five grandchildren Dana (Anthony) Ferris, Lauren Tompkins, Connor Tompkins, Ryan Tompkins, and Wyatt Tompkins; and his two great-grandchildren Ava Ferris and Christian Ferris. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine and his brother Lawrence.
The burial will be held at the National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Friday, September 25 at 1 PM. A memorial service will follow at Holy Redeemer Church, Chatham, MA on Saturday, September 26 at 11 AM.
