Ronald W. McVickar

Ron died on Aug. 18, 2011 after a brief illness. He lived in Chatham for 60 years. Ron was born in Shawsheen Village MA. now Andover MA. in 1932. He moved to Chatham in his junior year of high school and became class president for his senior year. Ron was immensely proud to have served in the Marines for 3 years after high school.

Ron and his wife Beverly owned and operated Ron’s Sandwich Shop on Main St. in Chatham for 17 years. He loved being part of the Chatham community, and served on the Chatham School Committee, and as president of the Chatham Athletic Association. He was also instrumental in starting the Hockey program at Chatham High School in the early 70’s.

Ron’s true love was skippering the “Banshee“ as a charter boat captain for 40 years.

He had a true gift as a fisherman and enjoyed nothing more than watching people have fun on his boat.

Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly, his sister Madge Reynolds of Minn. his son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Rebecca of Harwich, son Mark of Cumberland, ME, brother-in-law Donald Wormwood and four grandson’s Matthew, Brenden, Benjamin and Timothy.
