Stephen W. Mitchell

The son of the late Woodrow and Ella Mitchell, Steve was born in 1953 in Litchfield, Maine, where he grew up. He attended Monmouth Academy and the University of Southern Maine. Steve began his 40-year career in financial services at UNUM in Maine. With his extensive retirement and investment experience, he held multiple management roles at New England Life, Fidelity Investments, and Merrill Lynch.

After meeting his wife, Jan, they married in 1999 in Weston, MA, and shared 27

wonderful years together. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed golfing, boating, and traveling including Russia, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

Steve was a devoted father and grandfather. With his daughter, Laurie Woods, he shared many special moments. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Woods.

Steve loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed walking with his dogs, Salty and his current beloved companion, Indy. Both dogs held a special place in his heart and brought him great joy and companionship. He will be remembered for the passion he brought to his work and his many interests and adventures.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Mary-Elizabeth and Naomi, and his brothers Jonathan, Samuel, and David. He is survived by his wife, Jan Mitchell; daughter, Laurie Woods, and her husband, Paul; his two grandchildren, Megan and Ryan; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and their families.
