Virginia Eldredge Brennan passed away peacefully in her 101st year with her “girls” by her side on September 7. Reaching the age of 100 is a milestone for anyone, but it was a special goal for “Gigi” and she talked about it often. In a recent article, she credited the secret to her advanced age was because she lived “a happy life, with a wonderful family, two great husbands and four fantastic kids.” Her family threw her a birthday party in April to celebrate turning 100. The amount of family members and friends filled the Longshore restaurant that day. It was a memorable day; one her family will treasure as they remember their Gigi.
Virginia was born in Quincy MA on April 14, 1916 and graduated from Braintree High School. She met her husband (and the father of her four children) there at a dance. She and Roy Eldredge married in 1935, and were married for 48 years until his death in 1983. Two years later in 1985, Virginia married widower Joseph Brennan. They had 10 years together and she embraced his children.
Virginia is survived by her three daughters; Betty Bennett and her husband Robert, Shirley Maguire and her husband Paul, and Debra Eldredge and her partner Susan Eldredge; and her daughter-in-law Nancy Eldredge and their families which includes grandchildren Susan and Linda; Scott, Bob, Cheri, Greg and Lisa; and Patti; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son James Eldredge and her grandson Glen Eldredge. She is also survived by her step-children, Jean Skipper, William Brennan, Mary Brennan, Susan Schilling, Kevin Brennan, John Brennan, Christine Love, Karen Moore, Lisa Palmer and their families. At the time of her passing Virginia resided at the Congregate House on Crowell Road in Chatham where she loved, and was loved by, her wonderful neighbors and the best caregivers in the world, Rose, Karen and Matt.
There will be a graveside service at the Seaside Cemetery in Chatham at the corner of Crowell Road and Main Street, on Saturday, September 17 at 11 a.m.
