The Navy sent him to MIT to participate in the V-12 program, the prestigious Navy College Training Program. After commissioning as a Deck Officer, Larry was assigned to antisubmarine patrol craft where he deployed to the Pacific, spending most of his active duty days in the Philippines.
After completion of his Navy service in 1946 Larry married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Dill.
