Ailene G. Hughes

Ailene G. Hughes aged 106, of Chattanooga passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, July 27, 2019. Mrs. Hughes was born on February 12, 1913 in Spring Garden, AL., and later moved to Chattanooga.

She is a former member of the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, and was well known for her love of cooking. She retired from Central Soya and went on to work as a cook for 18 years at the Stanley United Methodist Church. However, her devotion and love for her family was paramount to everything else.

Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Joanna Garner; husband, Raymond Hughes; son, William Hughes; sisters, Willie Thompson, Morzee Johnson, Ora Brown and Mamie Hudson.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her precious memories are son, James Hughes; daughters, Mary Hughes-Adams and Vernita Hughes, all of Chattanooga, and Nedra (Wendell) Howell of Hampton, GA.; special granddaughters, Monica Williams, Alexandria Hughes of Atlanta, GA., Lauren Howell of Hampton, GA. and Wendy Hughes of Chattanooga; special grandson, Justin Hughes of Atlanta, GA.; longtime and special friend, Mary Spencer; 16 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; other relatives and extended family and friends.
