

He was born on June 9, 1922, in Frankfurt, Germany and emigrated to Long Island, New York in 1949.
He and his wife owned and operated Campbell’s Bake Shop in Brentwood, NY until 1989. In 1996 they moved to Ooltewah, TN. Bert was a Master Baker, famous for his New York style cheesecake, who enjoyed sharing his baked goods with neighbors and friends.
For almost 20 years, Bert participated in the Memorial Hospital Lunch Program through St. Stephen’s Catholic Church where he donated baked goods to various waiting rooms.
He was an avid sports fan who loved his “home” team Eintracht Frankfurt Soccer Club, as well as his beloved New York Yankees. Bert enjoyed golf, bowling, tennis, swimming and skied well into his 80’s.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Johanna.
He is survived by his children, Gabriele Cheney, Barbara (Rich) Kramer, Bert (Erin) Wiegand, and Johanna (Bill) Sandreuter. “Opa” leaves behind his grandchildren Paul Cheney, Caroline DeMille, Stephen Kramer, Erika Taylor, Richard Kramer, Christina Angione, Jessica Stephan, Gabrielle Wiegand, Bert Wiegand, Sienna Wiegand, Declan Wiegand, Stefan Sandreuter, Kirstin Sandreuter, as well as his great grandchildren, Brian, Brooke, Hadley, Johnny, Jack and Cooper.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his sitters during the past few weeks for the kindness they extended to our father, and a special Thank You to his hospice nurse, Kathy Higgins, of Kindred Hospice for her professionalism, compassion and devotion to Bert over the past two years.
A graveside service will be conducted at Mr. Olivet Cemetery on Monday, January 10th at 1 pm, officiated by Fr. Manuel Perez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
