Bessie was born in Albany, GA. She was a 48 year resident of Chattanooga where she worked as a substitute teacher for Hamilton County Schools for 13 years.
Bessie is preceded in death by her father, Preston Jenkins; brother, Chester Jenkins; and sister, Annie Mae Thorton.
Survivors include, son, Roy M. Barber Jr., daughters, Jerstaceria “Stacy” Barber and Karona Katrice Barber; sisters, Vonnie (Albert) Irving, Betty Kemp, Eartha Lee Sims, and Dorothy L. Shannon; brother, Sonny Jenkins; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; close knit family, Naysha (Bradley) Travis, Brynae Burney, Mrs. Ivory (Johnny) Medina, Mrs. Lillie (Charles) Zakery, and Marilyn (Michael) Williams, and many friends.
A visitation for Bessie will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services – Franklin-Strickland Chapel, 1724 Mccallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
