Burla Mae Myers, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, TN, was born in Scottsboro, Alabama, April 29th, 1941. On August 15, 2021, Burla made her transition from this world to join her fellow saints and most precious Savior in Heaven. A lifelong member of the Baptist faith, Burla’s testimony was summed up in one of her favorite passages from the Bible (“the most victorious verse in all of the Scriptures,” as she said):
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
--Luke 24:1-5
A natural-born storyteller, unmatched cook, and vibrant hostess, Burla’s happiest moments were spent in the company of those she loved. While her mortal walk has ended, the family she has left behind rests in the knowledge her journey is far from over and remain certain she is among company beyond anything imagined on Earth. In fact, we can all rejoice over Burla being in the presence of Jesus, the one who performed so many miracles “the world itself could not contain the books that should be written of them” (John 21:5).
Burla was preceded in death by her parents, Odessa Phillips and Andrew Finch; her husband, Jerry Myers; her niece, Melody Dickson; and her son, Jerry Myers, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Kilgore and Treva Spiegel; her daughters, Cynthia McGehee and Jennifer Adams; her niece and nephew, Marilyn Swanson and Matt Townson; and her grandchildren, Jamie Pierce and Jordan Walker.
