Charles Edward "C.E." Wright

Born August 18, 1939, in Chattanooga, C.E. was the son of the late John and Helen Wright.

C.E. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, friend, and mentor. He shared 50 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Sheila Holmes Wright, building a life filled with family, friendships, sports, laughter, and countless memories.

After attending the University of Chattanooga (UC), C.E. began a long and successful career with Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company, where he served as a Manager of Underwriting in the Accident Department. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships, he developed throughout his career. One of those relationships became a lifelong friendship with Lester Duncan, a friendship that continued for over 50 years.

But C.E.’s life was about much more than his career. He had a lifelong passion for sports, especially University of Tennessee athletics and Tennessee football. He could always find a reason to talk about the Vols, cheer them on, and follow the game.

One of the greatest joys of C.E.‘s life was coaching girls’ fast-pitch softball. As a coach of the Super Chargers ⚡️, alongside his longtime friends and coaching partners Barney Giles and Gary Giles, he helped young athletes learn not only the game of softball but also the importance of teamwork, commitment, and perseverance.

C.E. also had a special love for dogs, and they held a place close to his heart.

C.E. was known for saying, “The key to getting older is adapting to change.” It was more than just something he said—he tried to live by it. Throughout his life, he faced changes and challenges by adapting and continuing to live the life he wanted.

Above all, C.E. loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Holmes Wright; daughters Chiesa Williams (Joel) and Charisse Houseye (Robert); and grandchildren Chase Houseye (Samantha), Cory Houseye (Macy), and John Williams (Kerri).

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Wright.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Barbara, Evan, and Tameka for the loving care, kindness, and companionship they provided to C.E.

C.E. leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond his family. It lives on in the players he coached, the friends he made, the colleagues he worked alongside, and the many people whose lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Celebration of Life for C.E. will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist–East Brainerd Chapel, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, on Saturday, September 26, from 3:00–5:00 p.m.
