Cynthia Sue Loveless

Cynthia Sue Loveless, age 68, of Chattanooga, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2026. She was born February 11, 1958, in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William Burk Harris, a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief, and Jonnie K. Harris.

As a child, Cynthia moved often alongside her father's Navy career, living in San Diego, California; Guam; and Millington, Tennessee. Those years shaped her into someone who was adaptable, resilient, and at home wherever her family was. It was during her family's time in Millington that she attended Memphis State University and met her first husband, Roger Dale Swanger, who was attending the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. The two married and moved to Chattanooga together, where they later welcomed their children, Danielle and William Lee.

Cynthia found her calling as a Practice Administrator for a local OB/GYN group for many years, where she was known for her kindness, diligence, and work ethic — qualities that carried into every part of her life. She brought that same care home with her, especially to her greatest joy: her children.

Cynthia shared an especially close bond with her parents. She cherished the years her family spent together in Chattanooga after her parents moved there in 1988 to be near their grandchildren, and she carried her father's warmth and her mother's discipline with her throughout her life. Following her father's passing in 2015 and her mother's in 2023, Cynthia held their memory close, often speaking of the values they instilled in her and the example they set as devoted partners to one another for 63 years.

On September 22, 2006, Cynthia married Billy Joe Loveless, and the two shared a love of boating, traveling and road trips together, always finding joy in the journey and in exploring new places side by side.

She found true joy in crafting and calligraphy, taking pleasure in creating things with her hands. Her creations were a reflection of her patience and her nurturing spirit. She especially found comfort in reading her Bible. She also cherished her dogs, Odie and Moxie, constant companions who brought her comfort and laughter.

More than anything, Cynthia treasured the time she spent with her children, Danielle and Lee. She took pride in watching them grow and was present for the big moments and the small, everyday ones alike — the kind of quiet, steady love that shapes a family.

Cynthia will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to her family, and the gentle, grounded way she moved through life.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Loveless; her daughter, Danielle Brooke Swanger; and her son, William Lee Swanger; her stepsons, Mark (Penny) Loveless, Nathan (Michelle) Loveless; and her grandchildren, Max Loveless and Jas Loveless.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
