

She was born June 23, 1934, in Dunlap, Tennessee to the late Claudie (Evans) and Lowry H. Powers, Sr.
Mrs. Murrey served as the Head of the Dietetic Department for Memorial Hospital for many years.
She and her late husband, William Steve Murrey, Jr. were charter members of Christ United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she faithfully served in many capacities within the church ministry.
Some of her hobbies included cooking, birdwatching, reading, gardening, camping and traveling the west. She was an alumnus of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was a die-hard Tennessee Vol fan. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and those she loved.
Survivors include her daughters, Kim Murrey Hawes (Max), of Soddy Daisy, TN, Jane Murrey Bryan (James), of Ooltewah, TN; son, Stanley Murrey of Ooltewah, TN; eight grandchildren, Adam Bryan, Emily McGlohon, Jordan Burch, Ashley Jones, Taylor Patterson, Orry Murrey, Tristan Murrey, and Chase Hawes; twelve great-grandsons, and four great-granddaughters; and another great-grandchild due in November.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 3-5 p.m. EDT p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. EDT at Christ United Methodist Church (8645 East Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421). Pastor David Hall will officiate.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Monday, June 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. CDT (610 Mt. Hope St., Franklin, TN 37064). Active pallbearers will be Chase Hawes, Adam Bryan, Orry Murrey, Stan Burch, Jake Patterson, Craig Jones, and Colton Corbett.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Nathan Chamberlain, Caregiver, Kierston Coleman, and Hearth Hospice, specifically, Alicia and Abbey.
