Fannie Hicks, widow to veteran Manuel Hicks who preceded her in death on January 1, 2001, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. in the Regency House Assisted Living Facility on Hamill Road in Hixson, TN.
Fannie and Manuel Hicks were married for 50 years and had one son, Manuel Hicks, Jr., a Fallen Soldier, active during the Vietnam Era.
Fannie confessed and received Jesus Christ as her Savior in the early years of her life and faithfully used her gifts and served her church with much joy, culminating at Harris Chapel AME Zion Church. As time past, Mrs. Hicks' failing health in her nineties (90's), eventually, prevented her from attending church services and fellowshipping with her church family.
Fannie was a graduate of Howard ("Hustling Tiger") High School where she earned the honor of Magna cum laude.
Mrs. Hicks was a career cafeteria manager for over 50 years in public schools and post retirement at Ridgedale Baptist Church. Mrs. Hicks officially retired in 1993.
Fannie is survived by numerous cousins:
Marjorie Battle, Marvin "Lucky" Battle (Stephanie); Martin Van Patten (Darlene), James "Sonny" Taylor (Huntsville, AL); Marrell Battle, New York; Julia Clay, Jeffery Clay, Maryanne Dorcy and Mark Patten (Detroit, MI); Steven Smotherman, Maria McCaulley, and Harold Smotherman, (Oklahoma); a close cousin and caregiver, Rosalyn Hickman (Gary), and Quincy Hickman, (Hixson, TN); a host of other 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation of cousins.
