Frederick Allen Douglass, Jr., lovingly and forever known as “Woo,” was born on February 23, 1976, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Woo was more than a name, he was a feeling, a presence, a soul you never forgot once you met him.
With his love for cooking, his gentle smile, and his calm “Bob Marley” spirit, he had a way of making people feel safe, welcomed, and understood. Being around Woo felt like home.
On December 18, 2025, Woo was called home, and the world became quieter without him. His passing left a space that can never be filled, and a pain that words can barely explain. Yet even in our sorrow, we are comforted knowing that his love did not leave with him it lives on in every life he touched.
Woo was welcomed into eternal rest by those who went before him, including Rosemary Hayes, Frederick Douglass, Sr., Ollie Willingham, Teleater Brown-Willingham, Lee Elmo, Caroline Douglas, Phyllis Cusatti-Douglass, Asia Cusatti, Lessie Crutcher, Ernest Crutcher Sr., Angela Crutcher-Foster, Troy Crutcher Sr., Rodney Willingham, Brandy Douglass, Prue Willingham, Larry Willingham, Ronald Willingham, Thomas Willingham, and Brandon “Trey” Douglass Evelyn Baker, along with many other beloved souls who greeted him with open arms.
Above all else, Woo loved his family. He was a devoted and loving father to Tushima (Prentice) Toney, Tshombe Farmer, Turkeisha Douglass-Peterson, Frederick Douglass, and Miracle Cusatti-Douglass. His children were his pride, his purpose, and his heartbeat. He was also a proud grandfather to his eighteen grandchildren, whose laughter filled his heart with joy and whose futures he dreamed about endlessly.
He leaves behind his mother-in-law, Brenda Bryant; and his beloved siblings, Terry Willingham, Lakisha Bryant, Andre Ray, Yvonne Green-Crutcher, Ernest (Rene) Crutcher Jr., Alice Goss-Morgan, Solomon Crutcher Sr, Rhonda “Dee-Dee” Crutcher-Muir, Danya Melton, Larry (Traci) Willingham, Tracy Willingham and Robert Douglass. To them, Woo was more than a brother, he was a protector, a listener, a source of strength, and unconditional love.
Woo’s love extended beyond family ties. He was a guiding light to his godchildren, Arreyanna Glass, Brittany Monford, and Journee Harris, and a steady presence for his nieces and nephews, who knew they could always count on him for comfort, wisdom, or simply a warm meal and a hug.
Woo’s special nieces, Taishaunna Bates, Alethia Strickland, Jamie Johnson, Terella Crutcher, Laquisha Smartt, Sierra Crutcher and Chelsea Phelps and special nephews, Warren "Marque” Muir, Brandon Foster, Kevin Wilson, Wade Humphrey, Christopher Johnson and Justin Crutcher.
He shared bonds that could never be broken with his special friends, Christy Stoudemiere, Nikkitia Bailey, and Nakia Farmer-Mathis; and his best friends, Jeffery Watson, Antwan Bullock, Bishop Jackson, Wesley Cook, Matthew Church, Randy Nunley, Leslie Tucker, and Chris Willingham. These friendships were rooted in loyalty, laughter, late nights, and memories that time can never erase.
Woo leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whose lives are forever changed by his presence and forever marked by his love.
Though our hearts ache and tears fall heavy, we find peace in knowing that Woo is now resting free from pain, wrapped in peace, and surrounded by love. His laughter still echoes in our memories, his cooking still warms our hearts, and his spirit still walks beside us every day. Woo may have left this world, but he will never leave our hearts. His love is eternal, and his legacy lives on through us all.

'You were never just a name,
you were a feeling,
the kind that wrapped around hearts
and made broken days feel lighter.
Woo, you carried peace in your smile,
love in your hands,
and warmth in everything you touched.
You fed bodies with your cooking,
but you fed souls without even trying.
Your laughter lingered,
your presence filled rooms,
and your calm spirit
made life slow down just enough
for us to breathe again.
December took you from our sight,
but not from our lives.
Not from our memories.
Not from the love you planted so deeply
inside all of us.
You live on in your children’s strength,
in your grandchildren’s laughter,
in the stories we tell
and the tears we try to hide.
We miss you in the quiet moments,
in the music,
in the meals that don’t taste the same
without you standing nearby.
Heaven gained your soul,
but we lost a piece of our hearts.
Still, we find comfort knowing
you are resting,
watching over us,
wrapped in peace,
finally home.
So we don’t say goodbye,
because love doesn’t end.
We say until we meet again,
and we carry you with us always.
Forever loved.
Forever missed.
Forever Woo.'
