George Kermit Wheelous Jr.

George Kermit Wheelous, Jr., age 75, of Chattanooga passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 in a local hospital.

He was born June 15, 1943 in Durham, North Carolina to the late Juanita & George Wheelous, Sr.

Mr. Wheelous was a United States Navy Veteran and was of the Baptist Faith; he served in the Eno Masonic Lodge in Durham, NC; and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mr. Wheelous was a dedicated coach for various sports for many years and an avid Tarheel fan.

He retired from Virginia College as the Director of Admissions.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sandra Clegg Wheelous; children, April Crowley of Mebane, NC, Lisa Elder of Portland, TN, Christopher Wheelous of Chattanooga, TN, and Kevin Wheelous of Lynchburg, VA; one sister, Paulette Richmond of Greenville, NC; and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the East Brainerd Chapel from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

A private graveside service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
